Designed by Lucian R Ercolani, 1956

Few forms convey the warm, familiar essence of home as succinctly as that of the rocking chair.

Since the beginning of time, designers and craftsmen have experienced a profound, oftentimes intuitive connection to wood as a building material. Lucian Ercolani echoed this affinity in 1956 with the construction of the CHAIRMAKERS ROCKER, a stirring ode to the historic profession of chairmaking, suffused with thoughtful, crafted details and raw materiality.

A paradigmatic example of classic Windsor craftsmanship, the CHAIRMAKERS ROCKER features a traditional spindle backrest with eight, finely-tuned spindles, curved to accommodate the body’s natural contours. Durable, solid wooden legs grant the chair a range of movement, allowing users to lean back and enjoy the simple pleasure of sitting in a rocking chair.

Manufactured in solid ash, the CHAIRMAKERS ROCKER is offered in nine bespoke finishes, including a natural finish and the new MODERN TONES series by Christian Møller Andersen.

Product Description

Few forms convey the warm, familiar essence of home as succinctly as that of the rocking chair. Since the beginning of time, designers and craftsmen have experienced a profound, oftentimes intuitive connection to wood as a building material. Lucian Ercolani echoed this affinity in 1956 with the construction of the CHAIRMAKERS ROCKER, a stirring ode to the historic profession of chairmaking, suffused with thoughtful, crafted details and raw materiality.

The CHAIRMAKERS ROCKER is a testament to the permanence of Windsor craftsmanship — demonstrating how the honest appeal of natural materials can prolong the lifetime of a design. Soothingly tactile and delightfully sturdy, the handsome form of the CHAIRMAKERS CHAIR imbues its surroundings with an endearing sense of tradition and ceremony. The chair’s distinctive character and architectural heritage make it an attractive, eye-catching addition to the discerning mid-century collector’s home.

A paradigmatic example of classic Windsor craftsmanship, the CHAIRMAKERS ROCKER features a traditional spindle backrest with eight, finely-tuned spindles, curved to accommodate the body’s natural contours and provide a supportive, comfortable seat. Durable, solid wooden legs grant the chair a range of movement, allowing users to lean back and enjoy the simple pleasure of sitting in a rocking chair. The CHAIRMAKERS ROCKER boasts traditional Windsor wedge and tenon joinery, a technique in which the chair’s legs are extended through the seat and secured with a wedge. These joints are then sanded until they lie flush with the seat to create a strong and durable base, built to withstand decades of use.

Manufactured in solid ash, the CHAIRMAKERS ROCKER is offered in nine bespoke finishes, including a natural finish and the new MODERN TONES series by Christian Møller Andersen.
